Take Care Of Your Toenail If You Are Diabetic



 For a diabetic patient foot care is one of the most important points. An easy thing like cutting and shaping nails needs a proper care. We all know that the diabetic patients are always worried about their feet as they mostly pay attention on the stringent diet, medication and exercise routine which make them forget about your feet. 

 Therefore following are some points which will make diabetic patient to take good care of their feet. This problem is mostly experience by type-2 diabetes patient .  
Following are some steps that will help you to cut your toenails it your are a diabetic patient. 
  • Make sure you are not in a hurry and have enough time for cutting the nails. A hurried job may cause to cuts and bruises in your feet. 
  • Start with warm bath water for your feet. You should check the temperature with your elbow because diabetes patients generally have reduced sensations in their feet and may not realize if the water is hot which can be dangerous.
  • Soak your feet for some time in that warm water. But make sure that, you are not soaking your feet for too long time; Make sure that no more than 5 minutes.
  • Then dry you feet with soft towel, be sure that you dry the area between your toes. 
  • After doing this cut your nails straight across but avoid cutting your nails too short. 
  • Also avoid cutting the sides of your toe nails. This will help you avoid in-grown toenails.
  • Along with this it is also essential for you to check your toe nail as if you notice an ingrown toenail you should go to doctor first as it can lead to infection. In very light cases, you can cure an in-grown fingernail by immersing your feet in warm water and then putting some cotton under the fingernail. If you notice redness, inflammation or pain, get medical help as soon possible.
  • You should also use nail file to smooth your nail. But while using this you should be careful as while filing you can make your skin irritate around the toenails which can result to blisters that further lead to many complications. 
  • Once you are done with the cutting and filing, check each toenail. If you have handled to cut or bruise yourself, you may need medical help to make sure that the wound does not get contaminated or infected.
Thus with the help of above tips diabetic patient can easily take care of their toe nails.
